FIX: A main report is re-rendered when you click a link to view a drillthrough report in SSRS 2008 R2

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a main report and add a drillthrough action in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008 R2).
  • You click a link on the main report to drill through to another report (also known as a drillthrough report).
  • You open the main report and then click the link to view the drillthrough report in Report Manager.
In this scenario, the main report is re-rendered before the drillthrough report is rendered and displayed. Additionally, you may experience poor rendering performance.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Select the Go to URL action instead of the Go to report action when you define the drillthrough action.

Method 2

Use SSRS 2008 R2 Web service URLs instead of Report Manger to view the reports.
