Visio2000: CAD Converter Fails to Convert CAD Drawings When You Use Process Engineering Shape Conversion Wizard

SYMPTOMS

In Visio 2000 Technical Edition, when you try to convert a CAD drawing by using the Process Engineering Shape Conversion Wizard, the CAD file fails to convert, and you receive the following error message:
The following file cannot be converted: (Filename and file path) Automation error

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.  This problem was corrected in Microsoft Visio 2000 SR-1.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Open the Process Engineering solution.
  2. On the Process Engineering menu, click Shape Conversion Wizard.
  3. Click CAD symbols from one or more files.
  4. Browse to and then select any CAD file.

    Note that the CAD file is not converted, and that you receive the error message mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
