SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You add the Exchange Trusted Subsystem (ETS) universal security group to the local Administrator group on a server that is not running Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.
  • You create a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 database availability group (DAG).
  • You specify the server that is not running Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 as the witness server.
In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:
The Exchange Trusted Subsystem is not a member of the local Administrators group on specified witness server servername.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when certain DAG-related cmdlets are run.

RESOLUTION

No action is required. You can safely ignore this error message if the DAG is configured and working correctly.

MORE INFORMATION

This error can occur when one of the following cmdlets is run:
  • Set-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup
  • New-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup
  • Restore-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup
The error occurs if the witness server is not a member of the ETS universal security group. However, there is no requirement that the witness server be a member of the ETS universal security group. Therefore, you can safely ignore this error message.
