SYMPTOMS

You cannot install Windows Internet Explorer 9. Additionally, the following error code is logged:

0x800f081e

This problem may occur if the installation package or some system file is corrupted.

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods in the order that is listed:

To delete all temporary files, follow these steps:

Start Windows Explorer, type %SystemDrive%\WINDOWS\TEMP in the address bar, and then press Enter.

Press Ctrl+A to select all the files in the TEMP folder. Right-click and then click Delete.

When you are prompted, click Yes.
Restart your computer, and then try to install Internet Explorer 9.

To generate a Schema.dat file again, you can change the name of the old Schema.dat file. To do this, follow these steps:

Start Windows Explorer, type %SystemDrive%\Windows\System32\SMI\Store\Machine in the address bar, and then press Enter.
