Symptoms

Assume that you try to open Games Explorer on a computer that is running Windows 7. However, it takes a long time for Games Explorer to be displayed. This issue occurs if the value of the DevicePath registry entry under the following registry subkey includes locations that contain many device drivers:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Cause

This issue occurs because of an error in the Windows System Assessment Tool (WinSAT). When you open Games Explorer, WinSAT displays the performance rating score of the computer in the Games Explorer window. WinSAT calculates the performance rating score by enumerating system devices. System devices are specified in the DevicePath entry. Therefore, if the value of the DevicePath entry includes locations that contain many device drivers, WinSAT takes a long time to calculate the performance rating score.

Windows 7 file information notes

  • The files that apply to a specific product, milestone (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table:

    Version

    Product

    Milestone

    Service branch

    6.1.760
    0.16xxx

    Windows 7

  • GDR service branches contain only those fixes that are widely released to address widespread, extremely important issues. LDR service branches contain hotfixes in addition to widely released fixes.

  • The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows 7" section. MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintain the state of the updated components. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
