SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open an uncompressed folder inside a compressed folder, you may receive the following error message:
Explorer has caused an error in Shdocvw.dll.
Explorer will now close.

If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the file name of the compressed folder contains the maximum number of characters.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, rename the compressed folder to a file name with less than 219 characters.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
