SYMPTOMS

During the installation of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional client fax update for Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) version 4.5, the Setup program installs the Microsoft Windows NT version of the fax client with updates, making it compatible with Windows 2000 Professional. When you run the installation program, you may receive the following error message:
You have violated the license agreement for the Small Business Server by installing Microsoft Fax Server on a computer not running the Small Business Server.

CAUSE

You may receive this error message when you browse through the installation directory on the server and then run Sbfsetup.exe or when you run the Setup program from the command line without using the -tc command-line option.

RESOLUTION

To avoid receiving the error message described in the "Symptoms" section, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type the following:
    \\Servername\ClientApps\MS\Fax\W2k\sbfsetup.exe -tc
  2. Click OK, and an End-User License Agreement is displayed on the screen.
