SYMPTOMS

If you use a Universal Serial Bus (USB) keyboard, when you hold down the SHIFT key and attempt to use the arrow keys to select text, you are unable to do so when you are using Edit.com at an MS-DOS prompt, or when you boot from an Emergency Boot Disk (EBD). The USB keyboard must be the only one that is attached to the computer for this issue to occur.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use a PS/2 keyboard, or edit and create text files by using Microsoft WordPad, or Microsoft Notepad, instead of Edit.com.

MORE INFORMATION

If a PS/2 keyboard is also attached to the computer, the USB keyboard does not exhibit this problem.

NOTE: USB Keyboards only work when booting from an EBD if the computer supports Legacy USB Emulation.
