Cannot Connect to Subfolders Within a Password-Protected Share Folder

When you try to connect to a subfolder within a password-protected share folder, you might get an error message similar to this: This is assuming that the password-protected share ("test") is on machineA and is password protected. "Test2" is a subfolder within "test".

To work around this issue, connect to the root folder "test" first, before connecting to the subfolder. By connecting to the root folder first, the password prompt will come up where you can enter the password. After entering the correct password, you can then connect directly to the subfolder because the password is stored in your *.pwl file.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
