No Sound After Resuming Computer from Standby or Sleep Mode

SYMPTOMS

After you resume your computer from Standby or Sleep mode, your sound may not work.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if your sound card uses the Aureal chipset.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, please contact the manufacturer of your sound card to inquire about the availability of updated drivers.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Adjust the Volume Level

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Sounds and Multimedia.
  2. On the Sounds tab, move the Sound Volume slider in either direction.

Method 2: Enable/Disable Mute

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Sounds and Multimedia.
  2. On the Audio tab, click Volume, and then click to select the Mute all check box under Volume Control.
  3. Click the Mute all check box again to clear it.
  4. Close the Volume Control window, and then click OK.
