Digital CD-ROM Playback Continues After Setting Windows Media Player to Analog CD Playback

When you configure Windows Media Player for analog CD-ROM playback, the operating system may continue to play back the CD-ROM digitally.

This behavior occurs because support for Digital Audio Extraction is built into both Windows Media Player and the operating system.

To resolve this behavior, disable Digital Audio Extraction in the operating system.

To Disable Digital Audio Extraction for Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

1. Right-click My Computer, click Properties, and then click the Device Manager tab.
2. Locate the CD-ROM, and then click the plus sign (+) in front of the device.
3. Right-click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Properties tab.
5. Click to clear the Enable digital CD-ROM audio for this CD-ROM device option, and then click OK.

To Disable Digital Audio Extraction for Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
3. Locate the CD-ROM, and then click the plus sign (+) in front of the device.
4. Right-click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Properties.
5. Click the Properties tab.
6. Click to clear Enable digital CD-ROM audio for this CD-ROM device option, and then click OK.
