When you create a workflow application, you may want to use a common script file so that you can share script functions among several workflow applications. If you are using a common script file, you may receive the following error message when you add an item to the workflow-enabled folder:
Unable to perform the Operation. EventID: 1539 Source: WorkflowAuditTrail Event Description: file://./backofficestorage/domain/public/foldername/{96511AA0-9588-4A6C-88C3-7059C1DCC87A}.EML: Old state '', new state 'First State', caption 'Create', event type 'OnCreate', ActionTable row ID '1'. State transition error: Error in condition: Parsing of the script failed at line 0 character 0. The source line is ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????. Source: Microsoft VBScript compilation error Error: 800a0408. Description: Invalid character RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, save the workflow common script file as Unicode so that it supports double-byte character set (DBCS) characters. To save a file in Unicode by using Notepad, click Save As on the File menu, and for Encoding select Unicode (the default is ANSI).
