SYMPTOMS

Assume that you use either the DB2 providers from Microsoft Host Integration Server 2010 or Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 v3 against a Sun Solaris DB2 database that is running on an Intel-based server. In this scenario, the Data Access Tool cannot create packages or perform a test query. Additionally, you may receive an "Unknown Server Class" error message.

If you troubleshoot this issue by capturing a network trace, you see that the Server Class that is returned is "QDB2/SUNX8664." This is unknown to OLE DB Provider for DB2 v3.
