Symptoms

Assume that you try to use the Active Directory Installation Wizard (Dcpromo.exe) to install a new domain controller on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 in an Active Directory environment. However, the installation process fails because of a remote procedure call (RPC) error.

For example, when you install a new domain controller, a large amount of data is replicated from partner domain controllers. If there is a replication issue in the TCP/IP layer, or if the installation process cannot assemble the required messages on the computer, the RPC returns an error. This behavior causes the installation process to fail.
