SYMPTOMS

When you have a computer running Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) with a Brother MFC-4450 or Brother MFC-7000fc printer, using the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) drivers, the Plug and Play process may start and display the Add New Hardware Wizard every time you restart the computer. This may occur even though the printer drivers have already been installed.

CAUSE

The cause of this behavior is that the MFC-4450 and MFC-7000fc printer drivers provided by Brother are not compatible with these operating systems.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact Brother Industries to inquire about availability of updated drivers.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, complete the Add New Hardware Wizard process each time you restart the computer.

STATUS

Brother's newest MFC models, the MFC7300C, MFC7400C and MFC9200C, were designed to be compatible with Windows Me. Brother cannot guarantee compatibility of other MFC models, which were developed before the release of Windows Me. Brother Industries is aware of this issue.
