Summary

You can insert a video from a website (YouTube, Hulu, and more) that uses embed code in a presentation in Microsoft Office PowerPoint. This helps reduce the size of your presentation.

Note If you are using a 64-bit version of PowerPoint, you have to use a 64-bit version of QuickTime or Flash to insert a video from a website. If you are using a 32-bit version of QuickTime or Flash, you have to use a 32-bit version of PowerPoint to insert a video from a website.

Make sure that the Flash Player or QuickTime is installed on the computer. Then, follow these steps:

Note For information about how to obtain Flash Player, visit the following website:

Note For information about how to obtain QuickTime, visit the following website:
http://www.quicktime.com

  1. Click the View tab in PowerPoint, select Normal in the Presentation Views, and then click the slide to which you want to add a video.

  2. In your browser, open the website that contains the video that you want to link to, such as YouTube or Hulu.
  3. On the web site, locate the video that you want to link to, and copy the Embed code. For example, in YouTube, click Share, click Embed, and then copy the embed code.

    Note
Most websites that contain videos include an embed code but the locations of embed codes will be different, depending on each website. Some videos do not have an embed code, and you cannot link to those videos. Even though they may be called 'embed codes', you are actually linking to the video and not embedding it in your presentation.
  4. In PowerPoint, on the Insert tab, in the Media group, click the arrow under Video.

  5. Click Video from Web Site.
  6. In the Insert Video From Web Site dialog box, paste the embed code, and then click Insert.
