Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You attach a 3G modem device to a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • You establish a dial-up network connection by using the 3G modem, and you can access the Internet.

  • You remove the 3G modem device from the computer without disconnecting the dial-up network connection.

  • You reattach the 3G modem device to the computer.

  • You establish a dial-up network connection in Network Device Interface Specification (NDIS) mode, or you establish a wireless wide area network (WWAN) connection by using the 3G modem device.

In this scenario, you cannot access the Internet. Additionally, when you try to ping an Internet IP address, the operation fails.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Rasmans.dll module sets the DisableDefaultRoutes attribute of the wireless wide area network (WWAN) interface to true, and the module does not restore the attribute when you remove the 3G modem without disconnecting the dial-up network connection.
