Icon for desktop and tray aren't installed with Microsoft Security Essentials 2

Symptoms

When you install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) version 2, the desktop icon and the tray icon may not be installed.

Resolution

To create the desktop icon, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then locate Microsoft Security Essentials.
  2. Right-click Microsoft Security Essentials, and then click Copy.
  3. Right-click on the desktop, and then click Paste.

To create the tray icon, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the task bar, and then click Properties.
  2. On the Taskbar tab, click Customize in the Notification area.
  3. In the Select which icons and notifications appear on the taskbar list, locate the Microsoft Security Client user interface, and then change the setting to Show icon and notification.
