This article describes the payment methods supported by Windows Phone Store and Windows Phone Marketplace.
How to pay
You can use the following forms of payment in Windows Phone Store and Marketplace:
International Cards
- Visa Card
- MasterCard
- America Express (not supported in all countries)
International cards are credit cards that are issued by your bank or financial institution which can be used in countries outside of the country of residence of the cardholder or the country where the card was issued. Even if your card has a Visa or MasterCard logo on it, it is possible it is not approved by your bank or issuing financial institution to make an international purchase.
Visa and MasterCard may be used in all markets Windows Phone Marketplace is available except South Korea. American Express may be used in a limited set of Windows Phone Marketplace markets.
Pre-paid cards, debit cards, and gift cards (even those with a Visa or MasterCard logo) do not qualify as international cards and are not currently accepted by Marketplace.
Note If your card is declined, check with your issuing bank or financial institution to understand if your card can be used for international transactions. Some banks may also have restrictions that prevent you from using the card for Internet-based purchases.
Mobile Payments
Marketplace supports mobile payments when this payment method is offered to customers by the mobile operator.
Mobile payments are a form of direct mobile operator billing. Marketplace purchases made on the phone are billed directly to your mobile phone bill.
Types of transactions
You'll see the following types of transactions on your credit card statement for apps you purchased:
- Individual applications purchases
- Bundled application purchases billed as a single charge
Value added taxes
Value added taxes, including local and regional sales taxes, may be added to the application price depending on the laws of the country or region. Usually, applicable taxes are already included in the price, with the notable exceptions of the United States and Canada.
