Disable Sync to the Web in OneNote 2010

Symptoms

On your first boot of Microsoft OneNote 2010, you may be prompted with a box asking if you would like your notebook to be "Synced to the Web (Recommended)" or "On My computer". You do not want to be prompted with this box on your first boot of OneNote 2010.

You also may want to completely disable the ability to save to the web from the OneNote 2010 application.

This is by design in Microsoft OneNote 2010.

Registry key information

To disable the prompt on first boot to Sync to the web, add the following registry key:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\OneNote\WebServiceProvider
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Dword Value.
  4. Type DisableSkydriveSetupOnFirstBoot, and then press ENTER.
  5. In the details pane, right-click DisableSkydriveSetupOnFirstBoot, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor.

Similarly, if you would like to completely disable the ability to Save to the web, add the following registry key:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\Common\WebIntegration
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Dword Value.
  4. Type WebIntegrationEnabled, and then press ENTER.
  5. In the details pane, right-click WebIntegrationEnabled, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor
