Description of the Outlook 2010 hotfix package (Outlook-x-none.msp): October 30, 2012

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

• Assume that you disable the Conversation view and close the Reading Pane in Outlook 2010. After you double-click an unread email message, the Mark Unread button is highlighted, and the email message is marked as read unexpectedly. Additionally, you have to click Mark Unread two times instead of one time to mark the email message as unread.
  

• When a new member is added to an empty distribution list in Outlook 2010 cache mode, the distribution list is not updated.
  

• Assume that you create and save a meeting request or an appointment in Outlook 2010. Then, you close and reopen the item. In this situation, you cannot change the properties of the Sensitivity drop-down list in the Properties dialog box of the item.
  

• Consider the following scenario:

  • You run Outlook 2010 in online mode.

  • You click the Do not deliver before option to postpone the delivery of an email message.

  • You send the email message. The email message is stored in the Outbox folder.

  • You open the email message.

  • You change the delivery time for the email message, and then you send the email message again.

  In this scenario, the email message is not displayed in the Outbox folder. Additionally, the email message is sent immediately.
  

• Assume that you set the PrintDarkColors registry key to 1, and then you create a calendar item in Outlook 2010. Additionally, assume that you assign a category that has a dark background color such as dark blue to the item. When you preview or print the item, the text in the calendar item is displayed in the background color instead of in white.
  

• When you sign or encrypt an email message that contains an MHT attachment in Outlook 2010, the attachment becomes corrupted. Additionally, the icon of the corrupted attachment is an Outlook item file (envelope) icon instead of an MHT file icon. When you try to open the attachment, an .msg file that contains the contents of the attachment is displayed.
  

• When there are multiple search folders in Outlook 2010, and Outlook 2010 is in online mode, it takes longer than expected to load the data in one of the search folders. Additionally, version store issues occur in Microsoft Exchange Server.
  

• When you reconfigure an Outlook 2010 profile to use a different mailbox, incoming email messages are moved to the Deleted Items folder.
  

• Assume that your Inbox folder contains many email messages in Outlook 2010, and various categories are assigned to the email messages. When you use an Outlook object model to create a table object that contains the Categories column, a private byte memory leak occurs in Outlook.
  

• Assume that you run Outlook 2010 over a WAN connection. You create a meeting request, and then you add many users to the meeting (including some cross-forest users). In this situation, the free/busy information for some attendees is displayed as "No information." However, Outlook is still loading the information. 
  

• After you apply hotfix 2597011 on a computer, and then you use the search function in Outlook 2010 to query a SharePoint document library, the search function returns no results.
  

• When you accept a meeting request in certain time zones, Outlook 2010 crashes.
  
  Note This issue occurs in the Jerusalem time zone.
  
  

• Assume that you select the Update tracking information, and then delete responses that don't contain comments check box in Outlook 2010. Additionally, assume that you send a meeting request to a recipient, and the recipient sends an empty response. In this situation, the meeting response is not deleted from the Inbox folder.
  

• Assume that you apply hotfix 2598318 or a later version of the Outlook 2010 hotfix package that fixes the issues that are described in hotfix 2598318 on a computer. Additionally, assume that you receive an email message that has an Office file attached to it from an internal sender. When you open the attached Office file, the file is opened in Protected View mode.
  

• Assume that you have an add-in that cancels item saving processes in Outlook 2010. When you cancel a saving process for a recurring meeting, Outlook crashes.
  

• Assume that you synchronize a mailbox that has a large file size or a folder in Outlook 2010 with Microsoft Exchange Server. Additionally, assume that you restart Outlook before the synchronization process is complete. When you restart the synchronization process, the process starts again from the beginning.
  

• Consider the following scenario:

  • You configure a primary and a secondary mailbox in Outlook 2010.

  • Both mailboxes are running in online mode.

  • You send an email message that has an Office file as an attachment by using the secondary mailbox.

  • The recipient receives the email message.

  In this scenario, the email message is sent from the primary mailbox instead of the secondary mailbox. Additionally, the Outbox folder of the primary mailbox contains the email message.
  

• When Outlook 2010 and Microsoft Lync 2010 are running at the same time, Outlook 2010 crashes.
  

• Consider the following scenario:

  • There are two users (user A and user B) in a Microsoft Office 365 environment.

  • User A configures an auto reply rule that uses a local .oft file.

  • User B sends an email message to user A.

  In this situation, user A receives a non-delivery report (NDR) in Outlook 2010. Additionally, user B does not receive an automatic reply message.
  

• Consider the following scenario:

  • An attribute of a user (user A) starts with the "On Behalf of" string in Active Directory. For example, the Job Title attribute in user A's Properties dialog box starts with the "on behalf of" string.

  • You receive a meeting request from another user (user B) in Outlook 2010, and Outlook 2010 is in cached mode.

  • You click Forward on the Home tab.

  • Your Name on behalf of user B is displayed in the From line.

  • You wait several seconds.

  In this scenario, the "on behalf of" string in the From line is replaced with user A’s name.
  

• Consider the following scenario:

  • You configure a primary and a secondary Exchange account in an Outlook 2010 profile.

  • You receive a meeting request in the primary account.

  • You click Forward on the Home tab, and then you select the secondary account as the sender.

  In this scenario, the From line in the meeting request is blank, and you cannot add an email address to the line.
  

• After you add many folders to the Favorites list in Outlook 2010, some folders are not displayed in the list. Then, after you restart Outlook, some folders are still not displayed.
  

• Assume that you configure some Exchange message classifications for Outlook 2010, and you do not deploy any Information Rights Management (IRM) templates. When you create a new item in Outlook, and then you click the Options tab and expand the Permission menu, Outlook crashes.
  

• Assume that you apply hotfix 2598318 or a later version of the Outlook 2010 hotfix package that fixes the issues that are described in hotfix 2598318 on the computer. When you try to import a .pst file by using the Import and Export wizard, you receive the following error message:

  The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found.

• Assume that Outlook 2010 is displayed in a right-to-left language, such as Arabic or Hebrew. Additionally, assume that you press Ctrl, you right-click the Outlook icon in the notification area, and then you click Connection Status. In this situation, the content  in the Microsoft Exchange Connection Status dialog box is not displayed correctly.
  

• Assume that you use a document library as the home page for a folder in Outlook 2010, and the Managed Metadata column is defined in the document library. When you upload a document or an item to the document library by using Outlook, you receive a script error message.
  

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
