Windows 95/Windows 98 Cannot List Users in Windows 2000 Domain

SYMPTOMS

When a Windows 95-based or Windows 98-based computer tries to obtain a list of users in a Windows 2000-based domain, the following error message may be displayed:
You cannot view the list of users at this time. Please try again later.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Windows 2000-based server returns invalid information about the number of user accounts.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
