Multiple error messages are logged in the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Distmgr.log file when you update shared Distribution Points

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You migrate a package from Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 to Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.
You enable sharing for Distribution Points (DP) that host content for the migrated package in 2012 Configuration Manager.
You change the source of the migrated application package in 2012 Configuration Manager.

In this scenario, when you update the shared Distribution Points, multiple error messages that resemble the following are logged in the Distmgr.log file:

CWmi::Connect(): ConnectServer(Namespace) failed. - 0x800706ba SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER datetime 7348 (0x1CB4)
CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\MYSERVER.com\root\CIMv2. Error = 0x800706BA
CWmi::GetObject(): IWbemServices is NULL - 0x8004101d

The errors are logged because Distribution Manager tries to connect to the shared DP to look for the Content Library folders. When the Content Library is not found, no changes are made to the DP. Therefore, the errors can safely be ignored.

Shared distribution points are Configuration Manager 2007 distribution points that can be used by System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Clients during the migration period. A Distribution Point can be shared only when the Configuration Manager 2007 hierarchy that contains the Distribution Point remains the active source hierarchy. Also, distribution point sharing must be enabled for the source site that contains the Distribution Point. Sharing ends for Distribution Points when you complete migration from the Configuration Manager 2007 hierarchy.
