SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall a Systems Management Server (SMS) Provider in Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, you cannot reinstall the same provider on the same server. Instead, you receive a message that states that the provider is already an SMS Provider for the site.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, uninstall the site. Then, reinstall the site, and add the SMS Providers that you want.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

The SMS Provider is a set of DLLs that run in Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). These DLLs enable connections for Administration Console and for SDK. The SMS Provider is installed or uninstalled by running System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Setup. On each Configuration Manager site, you can run Setup again to change the SMS Provider configuration or to add another provider on a different server. To remove the last SMS Provider for a site, you must uninstall the site.
