XL2000: No Error Message Returned to VBA on Failed Save

SYMPTOMS

During a file save operation in Microsoft Excel, if a second program locks the file, a temporary file with an eight-character hexadecimal name is created, which contains the saved data, and the original file is deleted. No error message is generated, and when you reopen the file, it reveals data loss.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 2.
