The Default DHCP Gateway Is Not Added to the Routing Table on a Multihomed Computer

A default gateway that is received from a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server may not be added to the host's routing table and is therefore not used.


This problem can occur under the following circumstances:
  • The Windows 2000-based host computer is multihomed (two or more network adapters)
  • You configure one network adapter with a static Internet Protocol (IP) address and a static default gateway
  • You configure another network adapter with the Obtain an IP address automatically option, and a DHCP server provides a default gateway

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
