How to modify ActiveSync to automatically connect devices as "Guest" and to avoid creating a new partnership

This article describes how to modify a Microsoft ActiveSync installation to automatically connect devices as "Guest" and to avoid creating a new partnership in versions 3.0 through 3.7 of ActiveSync.

Note In ActiveSync 4.0 and later versions, this change suppresses the partnership dialog only. This change does not configure the ActiveSync desktop passthrough connection.

You can configure ActiveSync to automatically connect devices as "Guest" by using the following registry key.

To update the registry, follow these steps:

1. Create a text file, and then save the file as a .reg" file.
2. Enter the following lines of text to the file exactly as they appear. Include a blank line at the bottom of the file.

   [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
   "GuestOnly"=dword:00000001
   
   

3. Save the file, and then double-click the file to merge the entries into the registry.
