Visio2000: The DWG Converter Works Slowly and Produces Dimension Lines That Are Not Updated

This article was previously published under Q270597

SYMPTOMS

When you try to convert a CAD drawing to Visio format, the conversion process may take longer than expected, and the dimension lines may not be updated when you resize the associated shape.

CAUSE

The Setup program for Visio 2000 Enterprise Edition does not install two stencils: Dimensioning - Architectural.vss and Dimensioning - Engineering.vss. These stencils are used by the DWG Converter for drawings that contain dimensions. If the stencils are not installed, the DWG Converter uses a "vector bag" approach that considerably slows down the conversion process. The converted dimensions are then a collection of lines, arrowheads, and text that is not updated when you resize the associated shapes.
