When you install Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 2000, your computer may stop responding (hang) at the "Preparing Network Connections" portion of startup.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if you install the Windows 2000 High Encryption pack and you do not restart your computer prior to installing SP1.

How to Obtain the Latest Windows 2000 Service Pack
To prevent this problem from occurring, restart your computer after you install the High Encryption pack, and then install Service Pack 1.To work around this problem:
