SYMPTOMS

When you select multiple cells in a table, and then copy the information to the Microsoft Windows Clipboard, you cannot paste the information into another area of the table.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you have installed the Microsoft Publisher 2000 SR-1 patch.

The Publisher 2000 SR-1 patch corrects the issue that is described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
249094  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/249094/EN-US/ ) PUB2000: Access Violation When You Paste Image into Publication
By correcting this issue, however, the ability to cut and paste multiple cells within a table was disabled.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Copy and paste the information between cells one cell at a time.

Method 2

Use Paste Special on the Edit menu, and past the cell information as formatted text. This will paste all the information into the table in a single cell. Select all the text in that cell and click Cut on the Edit menu (ctrl+x) it. Highlight the cells you want the data to appear in and click Paste on the Edit menu (ctrl+v). This will paste the data into the proper cells as originally intended, even if you have selected multiple rows and columns.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Publisher 2000 SR-1.
