Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows Server 2008 SP2.

  • You configure network adapter teaming on the computer.

  • You install the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2487376 or 2495300.

In this scenario, network adapter teaming breaks. Additionally, the network adapter teaming settings and other TCP/IP related static settings are lost.

Cause

This issue occurs because the hotfix changes the serial numbers of the network adapter PCI devices.

Resolution

Note If you upgrade Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2008 R2, or if you upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7, and then you install the hotfix that is described in this KB article, network adapter teaming still breaks.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
