Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You run a query against a table that has a columnstore index in Microsoft SQL Server 2012. A query execution plan uses a parallelism operator when the query runs. In this scenario, an access violation occurs intermittently.

You must apply a SQL Server 2012 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2012.

Workaround

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Disable the columnstore index.
  • Do not use the parallelism operator in the query execution plan. To do this, apply one of the following methods:
    • Add a MAXDOP 1 query hint option.
    • Set the Max Degree of Parallelism configuration option to 1.
