Symptoms

In Windows 8, you experience one or both of the following symptoms after you install the Adobe Flash Player plug-in for Internet browsers other than Internet Explorer:
  • The Flash Player Settings Manager window in Control Panel is no longer displayed in your language.
  • If you uninstall the Flash Player plug-in, the Flash Player Settings Manager window is missing from Control Panel.

Resolution

To resolve either or both of these problems, follow these steps.

Step 1: Determine whether your system is 64-bit or 32-bit

To determine whether your system is 64-bit or 32-bit, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, type control, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, click System and Security.
  3. Click System.
  4. In the System area, locate and examine the System type entry.

Step 2: Restore the Flash Player Settings Manager window

To restore the Flash Player Settings Manager window, follow the steps for your version of Windows.

For 64-bit systems

  1. Click Start, type cmd, and then click cmd.exe.
  2. Type cd /d c:\windows\winsxs, and then press Enter.
  3. Type for /f %a in ('dir/s/b FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl') do copy /y "%a" C:\Windows\SysWOW64\FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl, and then press Enter.
  4. Type for /f %a in ('dir/s/b FlashPlayerApp.exe') do copy /y "%a" C:\Windows\SysWOW64\FlashPlayerApp.exe, and then press Enter.

For 32-bit systems

  1. Click Start, then type cmd, and then click cmd.exe.
  2. Type cd /d c:\windows\winsxs, and then press Enter.
  3. Type for /f %a in ('dir/s/b FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl') do copy /y "%a" C:\Windows\System32\FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl, and then press Enter.
  4. Type for /f %a in ('dir/s/b FlashPlayerApp.exe') do copy /y "%a" C:\Windows\System32\FlashPlayerApp.exe, and then press Enter.

Step 3: Test the Flash Player Settings Manager window

To test the Flash Player Settings Manager window, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, type Control, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click System and Security.
  3. For 64-bit computers, click Flash Player (32-bit). For 32-bit computers, click Flash Player.
