Symptoms

Assume that you have a computer that is running a non-English version of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. When you use the Unit conversion command in Calculator to perform a conversion, some conversion routines are not calculated correctly.

For example, assume that you use Calculator in the German version of Windows 7 to convert 1 metric horsepower (the option in German is PS) to kilowatt (the option in German is Kilowatt). In this situation, the result is calculated incorrectly as 0.746 kilowatts.

Note Different regions use different definitions of the horsepower unit. In the United States, mechanical horsepower is used, and 1 mechanical horsepower is equal to 0.746 kilowatts. In some areas of the European Union (for example, Germany), metric horsepower ("Pferdestärke" in German) is used, and 1 metric horsepower is equal to 0.73549875 kilowatts.

Resolution

After you install the following hotfix on the computer, Calculator uses mechanical horsepower as the only measurement unit of horsepower, and the option name is translated in all localized versions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
