Symptoms

Assume that you have Microsoft Office 2003 or a later version of Office installed on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. When you embed a file in a Word document and then copy the file to the computer by using the drag-and-drop feature, the file becomes corrupted.

Note The drag-and-drop feature of OLE is primarily a shortcut for copying and pasting data. For more information about the drag-and-drop feature, go to the following Microsoft website:
General information about the drag-and-drop feature
For example, assume that you open a Word document and then select a text file on the computer. Then, assume that you embed the text file in the Word document by using a drag-and-drop operation. When you drag the text file from the Word document and then drop the text file onto the desktop, the text file becomes corrupted.
