Windows Media Player Auto Upgrade Occurs Every 28 Weeks Instead of Once a Month

SYMPTOMS

After you configure Windows Media Player to automatically check for Windows Media Player upgrades once a month (28 days), the upgrade check runs once every 28 weeks.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain and install Windows Media Player version 7.0.0.1956 from the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/ (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To configure Windows Media Player to automatically check for Windows Media Player upgrades:
  1. In Windows Media Player, click Options on the Tools menu.
  2. Under Auto upgrade, click one of the following Check for Upgrade options:
    • Once a day
    • Once a week
    • Once a month
  3. Click OK.
