Summary

Currently, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 is not supported for installation on computers running the Windows Server 2012 operating system.
Installing SharePoint Server 2010 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012 could lead to unexpected behavior, therefore, Microsoft does not support SharePoint Server 2010 in Windows Server 2012.

SharePoint Server 2010 with Service Pack 2 and SharePoint Foundation 2010 with Service Pack 2 will offer support for Windows Server 2012. The release date for Service Pack 2 for SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Foundation 2010 is to be determined. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.

When you try to install SharePoint Server 2010 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012, you experience one or more of the following issues.

Issue 1

The SharePoint Server 2010 installation process fails. 

Issue 2

The SharePoint Server 2010 prerequisite installer (PrerequisiteInstaller.exe) fails, and you receive the following error message:
This program has compatibility issues

Note When you click Run the program without getting help to install SharePoint Server 2010, you may encounter an error message that resembles the following:

SharePoint Server 2010 can not be installed on Windows Server 2012.

Issue 3

When you try to start the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell, you receive the following error message:
The Local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets with FeatureDependencyId are not registered.
Additionally, when you try to run Windows PowerShell cmdlets for SharePoint Server 2010, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft SharePoint is not supported with version 4.0.xxxxx.xxxxx of the Microsoft .Net Runtime.
