On This PageSymptomsOn a computer that is running Windows 8 Release Preview or Windows Server 2012 Release Candidate, the system may randomly stop responding (hang) when you work on multimedia or communication activities. This problem may occur during video editing, unified communications, or other multimedia activities. Note This problem is resolved in the release versions of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. CauseThis problem may occur because of an issue in the interaction between the state-machine driving dynamic tick transitions and the state-machine-driving clock rate changes. ResolutionNote This problem is resolved in the release versions of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. To resolve this problem, install this update on the computer that is running Windows 8 Release Preview or Windows Server 2012 Release Candidate. Note There is a workaround for this problem that disables dynamic tick. However, disabling dynamic tick reduces battery life and power optimizations. If you applied the workaround, we recommend that you re-enable dynamic tick after you apply this update. To re-enable dynamic tick, type the following command at an elevated command prompt, and then press Enter: bcdedit /set disabledynamictick no Update informationThis update is available from Windows Update.
