Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2012 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2012 fix release.

Symptoms

Slow performance or an out-of-memory error occurs when you run a query in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services (SSAS 2012).

This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • The query contains DAX measures.

  • One of the DAX measures contains nested IF statements together with other DAX measures that contain complex formulas.

Note This issue only occurs on an SSAS 2012 server that is running in PowerPivot for SharePoint or Tabular models.

Cause

This issue occurs because the required memory is greatly increased when the conditions of inner IF functions are joined to the conditions of outer IF functions, especially when the conditions of the inner IF functions are complex in the query plan.

Note When the conditions of inner IF functions are joined to the conditions of outer IF functions, each node of the inner IF functions are joined to the outer IF functions in the query plan.
