Symptoms

When attempting to perform a mail merge in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 on a large amount of records, such as a large group of Contacts in a Marketing List, Microsoft Office Word prematurely closes after clicking 'OK' in the Mail Merge Recipients window.

Cause

Microsoft Office Word uses an internal queue to handle incoming mail merge items. However, when this queue becomes overloaded, it can cause Word to crash unexpectedly.

Resolution

Increase the UserPostMessageLimit registry entry on the machine performing the mail merge.
