Symptoms

Assume that an application queries certain version 2 performance counters on different threads on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7. In this situation, a memory leak or handle leak occurs in the Perflib.lib component.

For example, this issue occurs when Microsoft System Center Operations Manager monitors certain version 2 performance counters on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.

Resolution

After you install this hotfix, you may experience the symptoms related to System Center Operations Manager that are mentioned in KB2878378. If this occurs, please install hotfix 2878378 to resolve the issue.

If you are installing hotfix 2734909 for the first time, we recommend that you install hotfix KB2878378 instead. This hotfix is included in hotfix 2878378.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must be running one of the following operating systems:
