"PowerPoint cannot insert a video from this embed code" error

Symptoms

When pasting an embed code for an online video into the Insert Video From Web Site window, you receive the error "PowerPoint cannot insert a video from this embed code. Verify that the embed code is correct, and then try again."

Cause

This can occur if the embed code contains iFrames, which are not supported in PowerPoint. To verify that your embed code contains an iFrame, check for:

Resolution

Generate an embed code from the website that does not use iFrames. On YouTube, this option is called "Use Old Embed Code."
