SYMPTOMS

When you promote a Microsoft Windows 2000-based stand-alone server with the computer name of Internet to a domain controller, run the DC Promo program, and then you restart the computer, you may receive the following error message:
Lsass.exe - System Error
Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: The specified user already exists. Error Status: 0x0000063. Please click OK to shutdown the system and reboot into Directory Services Restore mode, check the event log for more detailed information.
If you attempt to join the computer named Internet to an existing Windows 2000-based domain, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Windows cannot create the new computer object because the pre-Windows 2000 computer name Name is already in use. Select another name, and then try again.

Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the computer name of Internet is a restricted Windows 2000 computer name and cannot be used by a domain controller, a member server, or a Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional-based client that is a member of a Windows 2000 domain.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, you must restore the server (that you attempted to promote to a Windows 2000 domain controller) from a backup created before the DC Promo program ran on that computer. Then you must give the computer a name other than Internet before you run the DC Promo program again.

If you attempted to join a member server or a Windows 2000 Professional-based client to an existing Windows 2000 domain, you can rename the computer, restart it, and then join the domain with a different computer name.
