Outlook for Mac 2011 does not support sending email messages from security groups or distribution lists

Symptoms

When you try to send email messages from a distribution list or a security group, Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 times out, and you receive the following error message:
An unknown error has occurred in Outlook
Error code -19992

Cause

Outlook for Mac 2011 has the following limitations:
  • You cannot send email messages from a distribution list or a security group.
  • You cannot use a distribution list or a security group as a delegate.

Workaround

To work around these limitations, take the following actions: 
  • Send email messages from a single account instead of from a distribution list or a security group. 
  • Use single accounts as delegates instead of using distribution lists or security groups as delegates.
