Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
-
You install more than 27 physical hard disks on a computer that is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
-
You use Performance Monitor or a Performance Data Helper (PDH) function to monitor the performance of the physical disks.
-
You use Performance Monitor or the PDH function to collect the performance data.
In this scenario, Performance Monitor or the PDH function takes longer than expected to collect the data. Additionally, CPU usage is higher than expected while Performance Monitor or the PDH function collects the data.
Note The time that Performance Monitor or the PDH function takes to collect the data depends on the number of disks that are attached to the computer.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes
