WD2000: Macros Enabled When You Use Access Database File in Microsoft Word

When you use a Microsoft Access database file that contains macros in Microsoft Word, Word does not display the macro virus warning message. This problem can occur in either of the following situations:

• When you use the Access database file in a Word mail merge.
  
  -or-
• When you insert the database in your Microsoft Word document.

NOTE: This problem can occur when you open a Microsoft Access table either locally or through an Internet or intranet connection.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. This update is designed to patch Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) installations. 1. Download the Wrdacc.exe file from the following Microsoft Web site:
   http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/wrdacc.aspx (http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/wrdacc.aspx)
2. After you have downloaded the updated security patch, double-click the Wrdacc.exe file to start the installation program. Click Yes to the following message:
   This program will install the Word Mail Merge Security Update. Do you want to continue?
3. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
4. After the update is installed, click OK to the following message:
   The update was applied successfully.

How to Determine Whether the Update Is Installed

The update affects the file Winword.exe and updates the version of Microsoft Word 2000 to version 9.0.5302. To verify that you have the update, follow these steps:

1. Locate the Winword.exe file and right-click the file.
2. Select Properties on the shortcut menu.
3. In the Properties dialog box, click the Version tab.
4. Click Product Version. The product version should be 9.0.5302.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 2.

After you install the Microsoft Word Mail Merge update, one of the following occurs either when Microsoft Word opens a Microsoft Access data source that is attached to a Microsoft Word mail merge main document, or when you insert a Microsoft Access data base:

Case 1: If the File Is Opened from a Browser Cache or Temp Folder, or over an Internet or Intranet Connection

When Word opens your Microsoft Access data source, the following message is displayed: After you click Find Data Source to open your Microsoft Access data source, the Macro Warning dialog box appears to allow you to either enable macros or disable macros when the data source is opened.

If you are still unable to connect to the data source, follow these steps:

1. Click Find Data Source.
2. In the Open Data Source dialog box, click to select the data source that you want, click to select the Select method check box, and then click Open.
3. In the Confirm Data Source dialog box, click to select MS Access Database via ODBC (*.mdb), and then click OK.

Case 2: If the File Is Opened from a Local Drive or Network Drive

The Macro Warning dialog box appears to allow you to either enable macros or disable macros when the data source is opened.
