Introduction

This article describes a hotfix for the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 that resolves two issues in the following operating systems:
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
  • Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2)
  • Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)

Issue 1

Assume that you upgrade an earlier version of the .NET Framework to the .NET Framework 4.5 on a computer. When you use some third-party controls, you may receive a System.Security.VerificationException exception. This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The third-party controls use the generic types.
  • The CLR verifier is enabled by declaring an assembly that is marked as security-transparent.

Cause 1

This issue occurs because an update is made in the Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler in the .NET Framework 4.5.

Issue 2

In rare circumstances, the Advanced RISC Machines (ARM) devices crash during garbage collection.

Restart requirement

After you apply this update, you do not have to restart the computer unless the files that are being updated are locked or are being used.
