Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You select the Enable troubleshooting logging (requires restarting Outlook) check box in the Advanced settings of Microsoft Outlook 2010 in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 organization.

  • You create or reply to an email message in Outlook 2010. An Exchange Web Services (EWS) request is sent to the Exchange server to retrieve the MailTips settings.

In this scenario, the logging file in the Outlook logging folder lists all the accepted and internal relay domains in the organization. If the organization has many accepted and internal relay domains, the logging file becomes large.

Note By default, the logging file is located in the following folder:

%Temp%\Outlook logging

Cause

This issue occurs because the Exchange server returns the complete list of accepted or internal relay domains in the organization. When the Enable troubleshooting logging (requires restarting Outlook) check box is selected, the logging file, which contains the list, is saved to the local disk.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

2785908 Description of Update Rollup 5 version 2 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 Note After you apply the update rollup, the logging file only lists the primary SMTP domain for the user who submits the EWS request.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
