To support the Windows Installer features of self-repair, install-on-demand, and reinstall, Microsoft Word 2000 must be able to control how its files are updated. For this reason, Microsoft Word updates are distributed as a Windows Installer patch package (*.msp). This package contains all of the information necessary to correctly update the Windows Installer database for Microsoft Word 2000. MORE INFORMATION
To update an administrative installation of Microsoft Word 2000, the Windows Installer patch package uses a full-file replacement for the affected files. This package can be applied to any Microsoft Office 2000 administrative image, regardless of whether the image has been previously updated.
