Assume that you want to copy and then paste some data into PowerPivot for Microsoft Excel. The data is in the HTML format, and contains localized date formats. When you try to copy and then paste the data, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Pasting data failed.
The object does not exist or read permissions are needed.
This issue occurs because the PowerPivot engine cannot interpret the localized date format.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1Do not copy and paste the data directly into PowerPivot. Instead, paste the HTML-formatted data into an Excel Worksheet, and then use the Excel Worksheet as the data source of the PowerPivot data model.
Note The data is pasted as string type, and cannot be converted to date type.
Method 2Use the English (United States) date format as the localized date format.
